ROOFING SERVICES · SKYLIGHTS
Skylight installation and replacement
A skylight is a hole in the roof, so we curb it and flash it like one.
Skylights leak where any roof opening does: at the curb, the flashing and the frame. Banu Construction installs new skylights and replaces failing ones. We build or raise the curb each one sits on and flash it into the roof membrane. The frame then goes on with its skirt lapped over that flashing. Where a new opening is cut, your engineer designs the framing and we build it.
What we deliver
-
Curbs flashed like the rest of the roof.
Base flashing tied into your membrane, with the skylight frame counter-flashing over it.
-
The right curb height.
New or raised curbs that give the flashing the height it needs above the roof surface.
-
Openings covered while we work.
Open skylights and new openings stay covered or guarded so no one can fall through.
-
Our own hoist to the roof.
We lift new frames and glass to the roof ourselves, up to 2,000 pounds a lift, under our own Special Rigger license.

Questions about skylights
Should we repair or replace a leaking skylight?
If the unit itself is sound and the leak is at the flashing, re-flashing the curb solves it. If the frame or glazing is failing, or the condensation never lets up, a new insulated unit is usually the better call. We water-test first and show you what we found.
Can you add a skylight where there isn't one?
Yes. Your engineer designs the new opening and its framing, and your architect or engineer usually files for a DOB permit. We build the opening and the curb, flash the curb into the roof and set the skylight.
Can skylights be replaced in winter?
Yes. We work one skylight at a time and close or cover the opening the same day. Roofing materials have temperature limits, so the flashing work gets scheduled around the weather.

Leaking skylight?
Send us photos from the roof and from inside. We'll tell you whether the problem is the flashing or the unit.
