Exterior and façade lighting, mounted and sealed into the wall

We anchor each fixture into sound masonry and seal the holes we make, so new lights don't bring new leaks.

Façade lighting means fixtures on the outside of the building: entrance lights, wall washers, uplights on cornices and ornament, and lighting for signs and canopies. People notice the light, but the wall is where the job goes right or wrong. Anchors in the wrong place crack brick, and unsealed penetrations let water in. Banu sets out each fixture against the wall and anchors it into sound masonry. Then we seal the penetrations and patch the wall around it. A licensed master electrician works alongside us, running the wiring and filing the electrical permit.

The fixture sits on a mounting plate fixed to the brick with stainless anchors. Power runs through the wall in conduit to a junction box behind the fixture, and the penetration is sealed.

What we deliver

  • Fixtures anchored into sound masonry.

We check each location against joints, steel and ornament before we drill.

  • Every penetration sealed.

We seal conduit entries and anchor holes so the light doesn't turn into a leak.

  • A wall that looks untouched.

We pull out abandoned conduit and patch old fixture holes to match the wall.

  • Fixtures high on the wall.

We reach them from drops rigged under our own Special Rigger license.

When to plan façade lighting

  • You're building a new entrance or canopy (entrances and street level)
  • Old fixtures are rusting, leaking or dead
  • The entrance or the sidewalk is too dark at night
  • You want to light a restored cornice or ornament
  • The scaffold is already up for façade work, which is the easiest time to add fixtures high on the wall

Questions about façade lighting

Do you do the electrical work?

We handle the façade side: fixture locations, mounting, anchors, sealing and patching. A licensed master electrician runs the wiring and files the electrical permit with DOB. We schedule the two trades together so the wall is opened once.

Can lights go on a landmarked building?

Often, with LPC approval. LPC reviews the fixture's design, size and placement, and how the light falls on the façade. Your architect or lighting designer files the application, and we build mockups when the review calls for them.

Will drilling for fixtures damage the façade?

Not when the anchors go where they belong. We set them in sound masonry, clear of edges and ornament wherever we can, and use stainless steel so they won't rust and crack the brick years later.
